This is not the Sesame Street way…

The popular educational children’s TV show, led by puppets Big Bird, Cookie Monster and Count von Count, usually teaches kids about the alphabet, kindness and generally getting along with one another.

The adorable monsters don’t get involved in burning political issues.

Imagine fans’ surprise when Elmo, everyone’s favourite furry red monster who has had an account on X since 2012 and went viral last year for asking “How is everybody doing?”, unleashed a tirade of tweets, including some on the Epstein files.

One post told Donald Trump to “RELEASE THE FILES”.

This follows an announcement last week that the US Department of Justice and the FBI found no evidence of the infamous list that could implicate high-profile associates of Epstein.

The dream-crushing madness didn’t end there, though.

The beloved (and usually child-friendly) Sesame Street character continued with shocking posts indulging in rampant antisemitism, claiming in one that Jews “control the world” and calling for their extermination.

Sesame Workshop, the non-profit organisation that makes the children’s programme, has released a statement saying that hackers were responsible for the “disgusting” messages that appeared on Elmo’s X account – which has almost 650,000 followers.

“Elmo’s X account was compromised by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,” a spokesperson said. “We are working to restore full control of the account.”

The offending posts have since been deleted.
