Australian-American actor Julian McMahon dies aged 56

Julian McMahon, the charismatic star of “Nip/Tuck” and “Charmed,” died aged 56. The Australian-American actor’s family announced that he passed away on Wednesday, 2 July, in Clearwater, Florida, after a private battle with cancer.

“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” said a statement released by his wife, Kelly McMahon, through his publicist.

“Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans” the statement said.

“His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.”

Some of the actor’s renowned performances include those in “Home and Away,” “Charmed,” “Nip/Tuck,” Doctor Doom in the 2005 and 2007 “Fantastic Four” movies, and “FBI: Most Wanted.”

For his performance in Ryan Murphy’s plastic surgery drama “Nip/Tuck,” which ran for six seasons, McMahon was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series.

McMahon’s most recent projects included Netflix’s whodunit “The Residence” and the Nicolas Cage drama “The Surfer,” which premiered earlier in the year at SXSW.

The son of an Australian prime minister, McMahon had three marriages. Singer Dannii Minogue was his first wife. He later married American actor Brooke Burns, with whom he had a daughter

He is survived by his third wife, Kelly McMahon, and his daughter.
