Police in Sittard in Limburg shot a man outside the city’s police station on Stationsplein overnight Friday due to what they called a “suspicious situation”.
The suspect, a 34-year-old man from Nijmegen, was injured in the leg and received first aid on the scene. He was then arrested and transferred to hospital.
Police shootings are rare in the Netherlands. Last year, officers shot at people 15 times.
Still, the national police are investigating the incident, as all cases involving an officer shooting that results in injury or death must be looked into.
Police are also looking into the cause and background of the incident.
