Dutch mass sperm donor Simon says he has 199 children; 1 woman is currently pregnant
Dutch mass sperm donor Simon wrote in a letter to parents, obtained by Nieuwsuur, that he has fathered at least 199 children – not 121 like it was previously thought.
The 43-year-old also reportedly mentioned the countries that the 199 children come from. He wrote that 172 are from the Netherlands, 15 are from Germany, 11 are Belgian, and 1 is from an undisclosed European country. According to Simon, one woman is also currently pregnant with another child.
Simon has reportedly been donating sperm since August 2017. While he did do some donations through medical care providers, most of the arrangements were made privately.
“I should have calculated the total number of donations much earlier, also for myself,” he wrote. “The total number turns out to be higher than I had thought, hoped, or wanted.”
On Saturday, the Belgian Federal Agency for Medicines and Health Products (FAMHP) had already started looking into any possible Belgian children of the mass donor.
Simon’s actions were discovered earlier this week, also by Nieuwsuur. The man, who also went by Jesse, Johan, Daan, Sam, or Maarten, is also far from the first mass sperm donor in the Netherlands.
The practice is considered problematic, especially when done in the same country, as it raises the chances of half-siblings unknowingly entering incestuous relationships later in life.
In the letter, Simon also reportedly stated that he has now stopped donating sperm. He also said that he is seeking professional guidance on how to now handle the situation.
