Feyenoord put five-time promoted side SC Cambuur on Sunday to record their second win of the season. Gijval Zechiel (2), Luciano Valente, Ayase Ueda and an own goal from Thijs Jansen sealed a 5-2 win in Leeuwarden. AZ are now the only side with a 100% record after three games. The Alkmaarders beat Fortuna Sittard on Saturday.

The game had lasted just 12 minutes when it was halted for a 30-minute delay. The Feyenoord supporters shot off fireworks inside the stadium, including some towards Cambuur supporters, leading to a lengthy break.

Zechiel got his first goal four minutes after the restart. The Cambuur goalkeeper had come out to prevent Ueda from scoring but gotten injured in the process. This gave Zechiel the chance to pick the ball up and hit it between the Cambuur defenders and into the goal.

It was all too easy for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side as they made it 2-0 in the 27th minute. Gaoussou Diarra played a low pass to Valente, who was left in acres of space in the box to finish.

Two of Feyenoord’s new signings combined for the third goal in the 42nd minute. Diarra played a pass onto the onrushing Mika Marmol, whose shot went in via the goalkeeper Thijs Jansen; the goal was later officially awarded as an own goal.

There was even time for one more goal for the Rotterdammers before halftime. Anis Hadj Moussa played a pass to Givairo Read; he was taken down after he had controlled it. Ueda calmly converted the penalty to make it 4-0 in the Kooi Stadion.

Despite there being close to no chance of a comeback, the Cambuur supporters still seemed pleased with the two goals they got in the closing stages. Rafik El Arguiouoi scored twice in 10 minutes to reduce the deficit to two.

Any hope of a comeback was soon extinguished with Zechiel getting his second goal of the game and Feyenoord’s fifth two minutes later.

Feyenoord climb up to fourth behind AZ, Go Ahead Eagles and PSV. AZ and Go Ahead were both victorious this weekend. AZ beat Fortuna Sittard 2-0 thanks to two goals from Jizz Hornkamp after Ole Romeny had been sent off for Fortuna after just five minutes due to a dangerous challenge.

Go Ahead continued to impress under new manager Joseph Oosting. ADO, like the other promoted sides Cambuur and Willem II, have lost every game comfortably this season, were comfortably swatted aside once again by Go Ahead with goals from Søren Tengstedt, Victor Edvardsen and Stefan Inge Siguròarson sealing a 3-1 win.
