House prices rising fastest in Groningen, slowest in Amsterdam

House prices are climbing fastest in Groningen and slowest in the Randstad, figures from the national statistics office CBS and the Land Registry showed on Tuesday.

Homes in Groningen province cost 7.9% more in the second quarter than a year earlier – the biggest rise in the country – while in Noord-Holland prices went up just 2.4%.

House prices rose 4.2% nationwide, the tenth quarter running that they have climbed, though more slowly than the 5.2% jump in the first three months of the year. After Groningen, the steepest rises were in Drenthe, Gelderland and Friesland, all above 5%.

Of the four biggest cities, The Hague rose most, at 4.5%, while Amsterdam barely moved, up 0.8%. Fewer homes sold than a year earlier in both Amsterdam and Rotterdam.

Nearly 59,000 homes changed hands across the country, 2.7% more than the same quarter last year.
