Police identify two Brazilian suspects in fatal stabbing of Dutch man in Bali

Police on Bali have identified two foreign nationals as suspects in the fatal stabbing of a 49-year-old Dutch man earlier this week, in what authorities say appears to have been a targeted attack, AD reports.

The suspects are believed to be Brazilian men, ages 34 and 32, according to the Indonesian news agency Antara. Police said both men fled Indonesia and were confirmed to have left the country on Tuesday.

The victim was identified by local authorities only as R.P., a 49-year-old Dutch national. Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf previously reported the man was René P., who was convicted in 2005 for trafficking hard drugs.

The attack took place at a vacation villa in the tourist area of Noord-Kuta. Police said the victim was about to leave the property with his girlfriend when he was suddenly attacked. The woman managed to escape.

Authorities launched an investigation immediately after the killing. Police said they were able to identify the suspects using evidence that included surveillance camera footage.
