Wellness resort De Zwaluwhoeve in Hierden, Gelder, is temporarily allowing guests to wear full-coverage swimwear, such as burkinis.

The company pledged to review its own rules after the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights ruled Tuesday that a woman was discriminated against there. The resort had allegedly asked her to leave for wearing a burkini.

A burkini is a swimsuit made of swimwear fabric that covers the body, including the head, and is generally worn in Islamic religion.

De Zwaluwhoeve does not allow such clothing on their “swimwear days,” but the institute said the resort had not adequately shown why it is a problem. Hygiene would not be affected, it said.

The resort said on Friday it does not believe that discrimination had occurred. It said that the rules are not meant to exclude people but rather to “ensure safe, healthy, and hygienic settings for all guests.”
