SC Cambuur fans left with permanent hearing damage from Feyenoord fans’ fireworks

During a match between SC Cambuur and Feynoord, Feynoord fans set off fireworks en masse at the Cambuur Leeuwarden stadium. It has now been revealed that some SC Cambuur fans suffered permanent hearing damage. The club has also filed a police report. Seven Cambuur fans have injuries, raging from small cuts to permanent loss of hearing. That is “very, really serious,” Bergsma added.

“A 41-year-old man now has the hearing of a 70-year-old, and he is very emotional about it,” Cambuur director Jesse Bergsma told ESPN on Sunday. According to Bergsma, there was a meeting with the victims.

“The question is how to prevent such incidents in the future. No one can promise a 100 percent guarantee, so neither can we. We will ensure that safety is maximized,” Bergsma said.

Bergsma also promised that extra measures will be taken now. “We have learned from what happened. Based on that, we are taking extra measures.”

Feynoord has reportedly identified dozens of offenders who will be banned from attending the stadium.

“The question is how to prevent such incidents in the future. No one can promise a 100 percent guarantee, so neither can we. We will ensure that safety is maximized. We have learned from what happened. Based on that, we are taking extra measures,” Bergsma added.
