Police investigate threat video linked to Overasselt attack

A video has surfaced on social media of masked men threatening an attack on Jan G. Jr, a resident of the property that was assaulted by armed men in Overasselt, Gelderland on Tuesday morning.

The video, which police have said they are investigating but has not yet been verified, shows four men in balaclavas, three holding automatic weapons. One reads out a statement in a heavy Spanish accent, accusing Jan G. Jr of stealing 1,283 kilograms of cocaine and two transport trucks.

“You have 12 hours to give the goods back and contact your ‘Belgian friend’”, the man reads, “after that we don’t want our goods anymore, but we promise we are going to kill everyone you love.”

The veracity of the video is still being analysed but it did not surface online before today, according to broadcaster NOS.

The video matches what Telegraaf and Het Parool have reported: that the shooting, in which more than 30 armed men killed a man and fired on police, was a gangland score settling.

Speculation has also been made that the attack was linked to drugs baron Jos “Bolle Jos” Leijdekkers, who is wanted in both the Netherlands and Belgium for narcotics trafficking and other offences, and is suspected to be behind a drugs bust in Spain this year – the largest single shipment capture ever recorded.

Leijdekkers’ lawyers have released a statement denying he had any involvement in the incident, telling news service ANP he “firmly distances himself from the unfounded accusations being repeatedly made against him.”

Many residents in Overasselt want the family associated with Jan G. Jr gone. They told NOS they had lived through repeated trouble at the property and hoped the council would step in, with one saying they wanted the family out for good so people no longer had to live in fear. Most would only speak anonymously, saying they feared repercussions.
