Boy, 13, dies after collision with motor scooter in Amsterdam
A 13-year-old boy from Amsterdam died after being struck by a motor scooter in Amsterdam Nieuw-West, police reports. The crash happened Saturday evening at about 8 p.m. on Pieter Calandlaan, and the boy died Sunday from his injuries, RTL reports. Police said the boy was on foot when he was hit by a motor scooter ridden by an 18-year-old man, also from Amsterdam.
When officers arrived Saturday evening, emergency responders immediately began resuscitation efforts. The boy was taken by ambulance to a hospital in critical condition. Despite treatment, he died Sunday.
The driver of the motor scooter also sustained injuries but was able to receive medical care at the scene before being taken into custody.
The investigation into how the collision occurred is ongoing. The Dutch police’s Traffic Investigation Team (OTV) and forensic traffic investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash. Authorities have also called on witnesses to come forward and contact police with any information.
